We’ve been paying for TV service since finishing college. During college, it was included in the dorms, but once we left school, we started paying every month to have cable or satellite tv. At it’s cheapest, I think we paid $40 a month, and now it has gotten up to $62 per month. I do call every year or so to negotiate the price lower, as I predict that most people pay even more than I currently do. On the low end of what we USED to pay, it was $480 a year, and now we are up to $744 a year. And we don’t even have any special channels or packages. If you want HBO, STARZ or any other special channels, you’ll be paying way more!
We keep talking about cutting the cord with tv, but we just haven’t followed through. In the last week or two however, we’ve been talking about it more and decided that we usually prefer Netflix anyway, and are tired of paying the high price of tv. We also figure that it will be healthier for us if we are less attached to watching tv. Not only will we save AT LEAST $744 a year, we also will watch less and get more done that we keep wanting to do. More time for enjoying each other’s company and focusing on the things we really want to do.
Harrison does love the Oregon Ducks (like a lot), so we will subscribe to SlingTV during football season for him. I’m pretty sure it’s only $25 a month and we were subscribing to that in addition to our satellite tv anyway so he could see the Pac 12 network.
I’m excited to spend less time watching TV, and to be saving so much more money each year!!
Have you ditched your cable tv yet? I am looking forward to paying less each month and not spending as much time sitting in front of the tv. We may also try an antenna to get a few channels, but I’m not sure we even need that.
